Is Live Music Back?

Well, almost…

Late Friday afternoon at the G-Spot, Gadsby hosted the popular Eugene band, Creep Creep Janga. I spotted a cryptic Instagram post by the band stating they were playing on the second longest day of the year at 6:30. I think they meant third longest day. The location was at the G-Spot. The show was less then 2 hours and 8 blocks away. Needless to say, I was excited.

I grabbed my trusty Fujifilm X-T1, an adapted Hexanon 50mm lens, a 128gb card, and a spare battery. Oh, and a MacKenzie River Brewing Porter tallboy. I trotted over and said hellos to so many faces that I haven’t seen in over a year.

The stage is in the driveway and the band was still setting up when I got there. The set started at 7:00 to a modest crowd (in courteously distant pods) and the band wailed out familiar songs. They just picked up a new bass player and a keyboard/saxophone player. The sax and keys added nice depth to the songs i already knew.

Judi can still belt out the vocals beautifully. Dillon still rips on his distortion laden ax, and I’ve always loved Harry’s drumming. The new bass player, Jesse is killer and he plays alongside David on keyboards and tenor saxophone. I tend to think of Creep Creep Janga as somewhat of a prog-rock band, mixed with a bit of metal, and garage-rock. I think the keys and saxophone are welcomed addition. I can’t wait to hear where they go with this line-up.

The crowd was certainly stoked to see live music, however I did spot an older couple (my age) walk by with their dogs, they did not appear to be so thrilled by band in a driveway. I was surprised by their scowling as they tried to walk by quickly. The Whitaker is typically very tight knit and supportive of each other. I’m sure this was just a one off.

There will be more music, and I will be there.
